Solicitor: Erin Mitchell
Court: Brisbane Magistrates Court
Date: November 2017
Overview:
Our client had attended a musical festival where she attempted to conceal on her person not only the drugs she intended to consume, but also that of her friends. In total, she was charged with possessing 23 MDMA pills and capsules. She was intercepted by sniffer dogs and undercover police at the entrance to the festival.
She promptly sought legal advice from Ms Mitchell of our office. We arranged to have the matter finalised on the first occasion by way of plea of guilty and had the matter referred for a drug and alcohol assessment.
WARNING:
This is a summary of an actual case. Details have been omitted to protect the privacy of our client. We select cases which are informative and no guarantee is provided that similar results are achievable in all cases. Every case is different and you should obtain legal advice specific to your matter and circumstances.
After hearing the submissions made on our client’s behalf, the Magistrate imposed a good behaviour bond for 4 months, conditioned that our client complete a 1 – 2 hour drug assessment and education session. No fine was imposed. As a result of this penalty being imposed, our client automatically received the benefit of no conviction recorded and will be able to move on with her future, without a criminal record haunting her job prospects and travel opportunities.
