Road Rage Leaves Family in Fear
A FAMILY of five feared for their lives as a driver tormented them on a major highway in a wild road rage incident.
Bryan Clerk David, 27, believed a father driving another car had cut him off, so he performed a dangerous maneuvre as two lanes moved on to the Centenary Hwy.
David made a sharp right turn in front of the other car, stopping on a 45-degree angle, forcing the car to make major evasive action to avoid a collision.
The car had a mother and father and three children in it, who by this time were crying in fear.
David then drove closely next to the other car and smashed their side mirror off with his fist, before fleeing.
Police spoke to David and he admitted to being frustrated with the victim driver, and said he was “playing games” with them.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Adam McDonald told Ipswich Magistrates Court despite the offence being very serious, there were no injuries sustained and David did not have a criminal history.
David pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and wilful damage.
A defence lawyer for David said his actions on the day were a “bizarre abhorration” and completely out of character for him.
The court was told David had since taken proactive steps to address his driving and anger issues, including two driving courses and counselling.
Magistrate Michael Quinn gave David credit for his remorse and steps he was taking to rehabilitate himself.
“You have clearly realised what you did was dangerous and taken steps to rehabilitate (yourself),” he said.
David was sentenced to nine months probation and disqualified from driving for six months.
