Jean Choi – Litigation Lawyer

Jean Choi is a litigation lawyer based in our Gold Coast office.

She holds a Bachelor of Optometry (2014) and Bachelor of Law with Honours (2024) from the University of Auckland, and is admitted both as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court in New Zealand and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland (2025).

Jean believes that the law is all about people and how we interact with each other. She is diligent, empathetic and strives to make the law feel human and understandable to all. Being raised in America, South Korea, and New Zealand, Jean is what is called a “third culture kid.” As a young adult, she lived in Auckland, the Gold Coast and Darwin. Jean uses her multicultural and rural experiences to connect with clients from all different backgrounds.

Before joining Potts Lawyers in 2025, Jean taught clinical optometry and was a legal researcher at the University of Auckland. She has been published in Australia, as well as overseas in the United Kingdom, Germany and New Zealand.

Jean’s research spans from criminal law, youth justice, disciplinary law (on health and legal professions), and family law. The focus of her Honours dissertation was on the health and disability provider clause in New Zealand Health and Disability Commissioner decisions, where her findings were later published in the Journal of Law and Medicine in Australia. She brings a wealth of experience as a previous optometrist, university teaching fellow, and legal researcher, to now lawyer.

In her spare time, Jean enjoys reading biographies, listening to NPR, swimming on Gold Coast beaches, and spending time with her loved ones.

Jean’s Testimonials:

“Had the pleasure of working with Craig DoRozario in a civil lawsuit from Suncorp, they were trying to claim 108k from me but Craig and his assistant Jean got the whole case thrown out and it only cost me 5k. The attention to detail and there response was exceptionally good. I’ve dealt with other law firms and they are by far a class above them all. Highly recommend!”
